Having a Balanced Life
Having a Balanced Life
Cheila Gonzalez
It is extremely easy to get lost in our daily lives where all you think about is living from one day to the next and treating your body rather poorly in the process. We have our days filled with tasks, chores, jobs to complete, and people to take care of. Many of us have school, and work we need to get to, and it reduces our time to look after ourselves and eat healthy. The majority of us work Monday-Friday and only get weekends off, which we take to do more household work, enjoy moments with family, rest, and sleep. I think we live in a multi-task world where everyone is always on the go and run and this is why many people do not have the time to be healthy. It takes dedication and effort to want to better yourselves and your body. We have to make the time to eat healthy, exercise, take care of ourselves to be able to be better in our daily lives. Taking care of our mind and body is essential for our overall well-being and success.
Good Eating
Make time for breakfast: Start your day off right with a nutritious breakfast that will give you the energy you need for the day.
Pack healthy snacks: Keep fruits, nuts, and granola bars on hand for quick, healthy snacks to fuel your brain between classes.
Cook at home: Instead of relying on fast food or takeout, try cooking simple, healthy meals at home. This will not only save you money but also give you more control over what you're putting into your body.
Maintaining a healthy diet can help you manage your weight and reduce your risk of getting sick or having diseases.
Paying It Forward
Cooking: Invite a family member or friend over who has been having trouble keeping a diet and cook them a healthy meal. This will make them feel special and welcomed to your home and at ease.
Helping: Help a family member, friend, or neighbor run an errand when they are busy. Many people also get sick and are unable to buy groceries for their families. This is a great way to help them out so, they can focus on eating and resting their body.
Volunteer: Whether it's at a local food bank, animal shelter, or community center. In my previous job, once a year we would go to Ronald McDonald's house and help them organize and fill the table with food ready for the kids to eat for lunchtime. Also, we would draw and color with the kids, it was a bittersweet feeling being able to meet and help them. I think volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and make a positive impact.
Help a classmate: Offer to study with a classmate who may be struggling with a class, subject, or assignment. You can make a group chat with your class to help each other with any questions you may have. Your support can make a big difference in their academic success.
Donate: You can donate to a charity or organization that you're passionate about. Every little bit helps, and your contribution can make a difference in someone else's life. Start off by donating odd towels or blankets to an animal shelter. You can also pack a box of food cans and items to your nearest food bank. Also, you can clean your closet and donate your new and used clothes to kids and families in need.
Self-Care
Self-care is all about taking the time to prioritize your emotional, mental, and physical well-being.
Take time for yourself: Take time to do hobbies or activities you are passionate about and enjoy. Take your day off from work to visit your doctor, dentist, or ophthalmologist to keep your health in good shape.
Meal Prep: Take time to plan your meals and have healthy choices available. This will help you to cook faster every day, enjoy your meals, and have more time for yourself.
Practice mindfulness: Take a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness through meditation, deep breathing, yoga or simply being present in the moment. You can listen to music or read to relax your mind.
Exercise regularly: Physical activity is not only good for your body but also your mind. Find an exercise routine that you enjoy and stick to it for improved overall well-being. Once you start a daily routine, it is better to fit your schedule and make it part of your day.
Get enough sleep: Sleep for 7-9 hours each night to ensure your body and mind are well-rested and ready to take on the day. When you do not get enough sleep, it can affect your mood and mind to think negatively and be more tired during the day.
In conclusion, it's important to prioritize good eating, paying it forward, and self-care for your overall well-being and success. Have a balanced life by using positive thinking and talking positively to others around you. Eating healthy foods, preparing your meals ahead of time, and drinking 8 oz of water 4-5 times daily. As well, as taking your vitamins, keeping a balanced diet, and exercising to improve your body and health. Meditating is also helpful to relieve stress and relax our minds. Most importantly, we need to sleep up to 9 hours to feel rested for the upcoming day ahead. You can incorporate these activities into your daily routine and always remember taking care of yourself is not selfish, you need it to be the best version of yourself.
